Thank You, Keurig!

At the beginning of the month, Keurig had a promotion going for people to sign up for a chance to try out and review the new Keurig 2.0 brewer for free.  Everyone who filled out an application impatiently awaited the coveted email from FedEx on the week of January 12th stating that they had been chosen.  Luckily for me, I was one of those recipients.  Today FedEx arrived with a package weighing a whopping 63 lbs. and I was quite honestly like a kid on Christmas morning; I couldn’t wait to tear into the box.

Upon opening it, I was quite frankly impressed by how much effort Keurig put into packaging everything.  They even included some awesome pretty colored confetti.

What amazed me even more was just how much they sent me to try out.  I wasn’t given just one box of k-cups, but a whopping 8 boxes.

Of the included k-cup boxes, I received two 12 packs of Starbucks House Blend, one 12 pack of Folgers Gourmet Selections k-carafe pods, one 12 pack of Donut Shop Regular k-carafe pods, one 24 pack of Green Mountain Coffee Sumatran Reserve, one 24 pack of Lipton Indulge Black Tea, one 24 pack of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa, and one 24 pack of Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll coffee.

I cannot wait to try out my new brewer and write a review.  I was going to wait and write just one blog post after I’d tried out the new brewer, but I was so excited I couldn’t wait and just wanted to say, “Thank you!!!”, to Keurig for selecting me.  More to come soon!

Vichy Idéalia Life Serum #LifeproofSkin Crowdtap Challenge

I was selected on Crowdtap to participate in the 8 day #LifeproofSkin challenge using the Vichy Idéalia Life Serum samples I received in the mail.  My samples arrived packaged in a cute shimmery pale pink organza bag.  I thought that was a really nice touch; it was almost like receiving a gift from a boutique.

Vichy samples

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when trying this new product, but was very excited at the prospect of getting some first hand experience with it.  I generally just use a basic facial moisturizer and hadn’t tried a facial serum before, or an anti-aging product, for that matter.

Vichy frontVichy back

The first thing I noticed was how silky feeling the Vichy Idéalia Life Serum is.  I also detected a subtle fragrance that reminded me of roses, which was very pleasant and not the least bit overwhelming.  I really liked how smoothly the serum went on and soaked into my skin, leaving it feeling baby soft.  I expected that feeling to dissipate after awhile, but it lasted all day and didn’t make my face look greasy or feel heavy like other moisturizing products have in the past.

Vichy serum

I used Vichy Idéalia Life Serum for 8 days straight and found that my skin continuously felt baby soft and toward the end I started to notice my dry skin areas were starting to shrink and look healthier.  Overall, I’d say my skin actually brightened up a bit after using the serum and I noticed that my pores had also become smaller and less noticeable.  I am very pleased with this product and would definitely use it again.  I’m just sad that I am out.  Thank you Crowdtap and Vichy for the opportunity!

U by Kotex #SAVEtheUNDIES Crowdtap Sample Experience

I had the good fortune of being lucky enough to be one of the people chosen for the #SAVEtheUNDIES U by Kotex sampling event from Crowdtap.  When I received my box, I was surprised to discover that they sent me not one sample pack, but three, so I could share two with friends.  Unfortunately, I completely forgot to snap a picture of my friends whom I shared with, but next time I’ll remember.

The first thing I noticed when opening my little black sample pack was how colorful the U by Kotex product wrappers are.  They’re very vivid and cheerful, which is a nice change from the doom and gloom feeling I generally associate with that time of the month.  It’s almost like getting pretty flowers.  I was also pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of a $1 off coupon.  I love saving money wherever I can, so that was a nice addition to the sample pack.

So, you’re probably thinking, “That’s great, but which products are they?”  To answer that question, the cute little green and purple paisley packages contain the new U by Kotex Clean Wear Ultra Thin Pads with 3D capture core and the tampons they included are U by Kotex Sleek Tampons in regular and super absorbency.

Now backing up a bit, just what is a 3D capture core?  Kotex describes it as a one-of-a-kind center that locks away wetness to help stop leaks.  I’ve been pretty skeptical over the years in regard to all this new technology when it comes to pads that stop leaks, and have gone through my fair share of ruined or stained undergarments and jeans.  However, the U by Kotex Clean Wear Ultra Thin Pads do exactly what they advertise, which is great when it comes to saving your favorite pair of comfy pants, or those super cute Hello Kitty boy short underwear.  The thinness is an added bonus, because you aren’t rocking one of those unsightly pad outlines if you happen to be wearing figure hugging bottoms or a dress.  I was honestly a little worried when I saw just how thin the U by Kotex Clean Wear Ultra Thin Pads were, but don’t let that fool you; their absorbency and leak protection is second to none.

I noticed neither the pads nor the tampons were scented, which is fantastic for people who are sensitive to fragrance or have allergies.  Speaking of tampons, lets talk about the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons.  I’ve had issues with leakage and just general discomfort with other brands, but did not experience either with these.  Some days the brand I had been using were mildly uncomfortable, but others, it was downright unbearable and I’d just throw the tampon in the trash and switch to pads, which had their own set of issues.  The other brand’s leak protection also left something to be desired on heavier and even normal flow days.  The U by Kotex Sleek Tampons were not at all uncomfortable and actually shape themselves to your body, so it’s like wearing nothing.  I also didn’t experience any leakage like I had with the competitor’s brand. The design of these specific tampons allows them to contour to each woman’s body, allowing for ultimate leak protection and maximum absorbency, so you aren’t stuck in a one size doesn’t really fit all quandary.  With that being said, if you still aren’t convinced the U by Kotex products are fabulous, I encourage you to snag a free sample for yourself here.

My Crowdtap #TeamTriscuit Recipe

A few days ago I joined the #TeamTriscuit challenge on Crowdtap to make a recipe using Triscuits.  After much deliberation, I decided on a fabulous Triscuit inclusive recipe for fish tacos.

Ingredients For Fish:

1 9 oz. box Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil Triscuits
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 lbs. flounder fillets
2 TBSP Vegetable oil
1 TBSP butter

Directions For Fish:

1. Beat the eggs in a shallow bowl and set aside.

2. Crush Triscuits until they resemble fine crumbs and add to a separate shallow bowl or pie tin.

3. Dip flounder fillet into egg, then press gently into Triscuit crumbs on both sides; set the coated fillet onto a plate. Repeat with remaining fillets. Refrigerate the fillets for about 15 minutes to ensure the crumbs set.

4. Melt butter with oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add flounder fillets, and cook 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until fish flakes with a fork.

Ingredients For Salsa:

4 large tomatoes, diced
1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes with chipotle chilies
1 large sweet onion, diced
1 TBSP fresh minced garlic
1 large bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
4 TSP fresh jalopeño, minced

Gripe of the Day

I hate that in modern society, the term homemaker seems to be synonymous with loser, leech, or lazy.  Why, as a supposedly evolved culture, is taking care of one’s household and/or children viewed so negatively?  There seems to be a stigma attached to being a homemaker in the 21st century.  The response to the admission of being a homemaker usually is met with an overwhelming backlash of horrified and disgusted looks, as well as comments to the effect of, “Oh, so you don’t work?”, “Can’t you get a job?”, “When are you going to start working?”, etcetera, etcetera.
